I recently conducted a security test on Hushmail using ... a network packet sniffer. Apart from basic http headers, all data was illegible using the packet sniffer.

Hotmail and other unencrypted Web email services, tried with the same test, allowed all sensitive information transferred across the network to be viewed.

This alone is an excellent reason for using Hushmail.

"I just wanted to drop you a quick note and thank you for your service. I am an individual user who uses my Hushmail account from both work and home. Whether it be private emails I wish to send to friends (who are also Hushmail users) or people with which I do business, I feel totally secure using your email. I have email accounts all over the place: Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail, etc.. but find myself using Hushmail whenever I need privacy. ...which is frequently.

I didn't think it necessary until about a year ago when I found out that my company was reading and screening our emails for "Security" reasons. A couple of my friends who said that they used Yahoo! email in order to avoid this invasion of privacy were stunned when I told them that web-based email was even more easily read (through their company's network cache). They are now users of Hushmail as well.

"Last year I was being held in a foreign Country (Tonga). Their government, through the efforts of a local businessman and his computer wise son, were tapping into my hotmail. They were reading all of my Hotmail, communications between my USA attorney and myself.

They always seemed to be ahead of our game. We could not understand how they knew so much about what we were doing. Since my actual freedom was in question a friend told me about your mail system. We all downloaded and started using it. The intrusions stopped the first time running.

I was able to use the legal system to get my passport back and the ability to return to the USA. My business was lost and so was my money, but I am fine and not being detained in that corrupt country any longer and have started to rebuild.

"Hushmail has been tremendously useful to me and to others I know in the Middle East. Last year I was a Christian missionary in the Middle East, but because of the religious oppression in Muslim countries, I couldn't communicate freely with family and friends here in the U.S. Although not all my friends and family were on Hushmail, I still had the security of 128 bit SSL encryption for their messages from the Hushmail servers to my personal computer. For others, they got Hushmail accounts too so that we could communicate freely. Thanks!
